V U E from the rooftops of Paris

Sunset over the 13th arrondissement

Since moving to Paris again, I’ve started to document the view from my top floor flat.

The sky is constantly changing and the movement of light across the day so subtle that each photo contrasts from the other.

Whether I’m here for another few days or months, I’m working on a little project bringing together these city views to create a portrait of my local, 13th Arrondissement.

Elephant in the flowers ar Saint Germain en Laye

Saint Germain en Laye, France

Yesterday I made a little trip to Saint Germain en Laye, all in the name of research. Despite a lot of rain the hidden sculptures in the park made light of grey skies.

looking upwards to a house covered in wisteria in north london

North London, UK

Standing before this house of overflowing wisteria I imagined myself in Umbria for a moment, wafts of parma ham and melon intermingling with the scent of flowers and hearty Italian cries piercing the sunshine. The taxi’s horn was a rude awakening that the house stood slap bang in the middle of the winding tarmac streets of Camden, it couldn’t be further from bella Italia.

We need more wisteria here. At least in the midst of all those flowers you can dream.

London Walks #2

Multicoloured Chilling

I just got the photos back from a new year’s day wander a few weeks back. It’s a perfect time to discover London – it seemed like the city was asleep that day. Ambling from the empty streets of Kentish Town we headed southward to the cosy hotel dining room’s of Monmouth Street, passing twinkling shopfronts in Covent Garden and the amber lights of free taxis at every turn.

French Architecture in London

DSCF7951

Versailles, France // Marylebone Road, London

The influence of the French Chateaux goes far beyond national boundaries. Aside from the strong parallels between Scottish and Franco architecture, architects further south clearly took inspiration from their friends across the channel. Elements of chateaux such as Versailles, Chambord and Chenonceau can be seen in many regency buildings in London. This building on Marylebone Road is just one example of this.
